Tips for Contacts

1. Phone Calls - Call each person on your list to break the ice. Tell her your personal story, why you’re supporting Obama, and why it’s so important to vote in this election in particular. Ask her if you can be in touch, so you can hear what’s important to her and keep her informed about what the candidates are saying on those issues.

2. Cup of Joe - Invite women over for coffee to see the video of Hillary and Barack (on dvd or YouTube), to discuss Obama’s views on various topics, and to hear their personal stories. Try inviting more than one person; small groups are a great setting for real connection but less pressure than one on one. Remember to make every meeting kid friendly. Hand out “Vote by Mail” applications.

3. Email - Let's face it, some people are more comfortable emailing than talking on the phone. If one of your voters seems uneasy over the phone, offer to email instead. This is also a great way to stay in touch with your list and to update them on upcoming events and important dates. Be careful to make sure you get the right email address; if they don’t reply, call them back to follow up.

4. Watch Party - There will be just one more debate between now and the election. Organize your own watch party at your house or a local gathering place.

5. Go by – Ask if you can come over. That may make a conversation possible, when she doesn’t have to worry about what to do with the kids. Don’t forget the Vote by Mail forms.

6. Work it out - Do you work out? So might your undecided voter. Offer to go for a run or walk as a time to get to know each other and discuss the election.

7. Nightlife - Ok, she doesn’t drink coffee, isn’t particularly enamored with working out with a stranger. Perhaps she’d like to have a drink? Again inviting more than one person is a great way to ease the pressure.

8. Be persistent! None of these tips is sure-fire, but persistence is. Keep trying every idea you have until you are able to connect!
